Self Service Kiosks

Self Checkout machines provide a mechanism for customers to process their own purchases, as opposed to being served by a traditional cashier or checkout operator. The customer performs the job of cashier themselves by scanning their purchases and processing their own payment.

As of early 2019 there is estimated to be 325,000 self checkouts in operation.

The In-Tech Solutions Self Checkout will run on any suitable kiosk or self checkout platform but we recommend the KX-500 kiosk unit. This can be floor standing or integrated into a counter top style checkout counter.

Its modular design allows flexibility to build the kiosk you need and select the mounting option best suited to your store environment. Space-saving options include wall mounting, counter mounting or an optional floor-standing plinth.

The KX-500 Kiosk brings together the latest multi-touch technology with a bright high-resolution 15” screen to deliver a highly responsive, complete self-check.

The major benefit to the retailer in providing self checkout units is the massive reduction in labour costs (see below). Often a single member of staff can oversee several self service checkouts. Additionally the self service kiosks are usually smaller than traditional checkouts and can save valuable store space or allow more checkouts to be installed into a small footprint within the store.

Research also suggests that self checkouts can be faster than using a conventional manned checkout, which in turn reduced queuing time and waiting time.

In a survey 42% of customers said they liked the convenience of self checkout, while 39% said it was faster than using a cashier.
